Welcome New Members!

Find out more about some of the great people of Flatbush Jewish Center. Here are some of our newest members…

Debbie Kaufman and Andy Greenberg are the proud parents of Amira (age 2). Debbie is a pretty awesome Torah reader. Andy is a friendly kind of guy at kiddush. And Amira is a very musical participant of Tot Shabbat. They have lived in Brooklyn for a while and are excited to join FJC!

Fun fact: Debbie is a third grade teacher – and she has the BEST COMMUTE EVER!

steinSarah and Scott are recent Brooklyn transplants from the Upper West Side, where they lived for five and nine years, respectively. Now officially Manhattan expats, they are excited to be a part of the FJC community, as well as to live among so many fellow musicians. Scott is a freelance pianist, music director, and Cleveland sports enthusiast. Sarah works full-time as a board-certified music therapist.

Fun fact: Sarah and Scott are training to run their first marathon in November (come cheer us on!).

lamorteFJC welcomes Zach Intrater and Tara La Morte Intrater to the community. Zach was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and is an Assistant United States Attorney in New Jersey. Tara was born and raised on Long Island, and is also an Assistant United States Attorney in New York. As you may have guessed, they met at law school. Zach and Tara have two kids – Ella is 3, and Ethan is 18 months. They all love going to the beach, having barbecues in the backyard, reading, dancing, and gardening.

langWe welcome Barbara, Jerry and their son Jakob Lang to the FJC community! Jakob has been an active member of the big kids services and the Lang family has attended other family and holiday programs at Flatbush Jewish Center. Jakob has been learning for several years with Cantor Zachary Konigsberg And we’re very excited to be celebrating Jakob’s Bar Mitzvah next fall!
Fun Facts about the Lang family:
Jakob is an accomplished martial artist, having achieved his black belt at the young age of 11. He got his mom interested in kickboxing as well.
Jerry enjoys skateboarding and loves the arts, and is an amazing stencil artist himself.
The family shares a love for sports, especially baseball and football

tuvi joins FJC conservative synagogue in park slope area

FJC welcomes Tuvia Vorhees to the community. Tuvi was born in Amsterdam, NL and was raised in Ramat Aviv, Israel. He has lived in Brooklyn for 3 years. Tuvi is an applied linguist and Assistant Professor at Borough of Manhattan Community College, also researching literacy, identity and culture. His hobbies include knitting, crocheting & needlework. He also enjoys Torah and is fluent in 6 languages.

Fun Facts: Do you know how many furry and scaly friends Tuvi has in his home?? You’ll have to ask him to find out!

riva joins FJC conservative synagogue in brooklynFJC welcomes Riva Gilman to the community. Riva was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and a member of Yeshivah of Flatbush Elementary School class of ’69, and Midwood High School class of ’73. She is divorced, with 2 kids and 3 grand kids. She loves Brooklyn’s ethnic communities, volunteering, speaking Hebrew, writing poetry, reading autobiographies of Jewish female leaders, singing and playing piano.

Coming next for Riva: She will be applying to Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work in 2016.

stephanie joins FJC conservative synagogue in kensingtonFJC welcomes Stephanie Ambroise to the community! Stephanie began attending Dinner Under the Stars and egalitarian minyan last spring, and has been a wonderful addition to our community ever since! She has been a resident of Kensington for 7 years and works in advertising.

Fun Facts about Stephanie:
* She was heartbroken that ‘Srugim’ ended when she just fell in love with the show
* Shabbat is her favorite day of the week – and she is always happy for shabbat invites, shidduchim, and Jewish learning opportunities.
